About Grain & Light
Who publishes this guide, how it is put together and the towns it is written for.
Grain & Light is a reference guide to wood accent walls: the species, the climate they live in, the finishes and the light. Pages are written to stay useful for years and are revised when their sources change.
Who publishes it?
The guide is put out by Trim My Crib, a firm in Venice, Florida, that designs and then builds interior detail work in local homes. That ownership is stated plainly in the footer of every page.
How are the guides written?
Every figure names its source, usually a U.S. government agency or a manufacturer’s published guide, with a link at the end of the page. Where we do arithmetic with published numbers, we show the formula. We do not publish testimonials or ratings, and we do not list prices.
What area does it cover?
Our local notes are written for homes in Osprey, Venice, Casey Key, Nokomis, Wellen Park, South Sarasota and Manasota Key, Florida, and nowhere else. The building science applies anywhere; the local remarks do not.
Illustrations
Drawings and charts on this site are made for this guide from the data cited. They are illustrations, not photographs of finished projects.
